History is taking place right now in the IT world and thus in the world

The stock value and profit of US tech companies go up. Apple worth the entire CAC40 (top 40 French companies, including Total, LVMH, Carrefour, etc.)

Coronavirus made it clear that these tech companies are in a different category.

We all use some of them except Chinese people because most US tech companies are forbidden there.

Doing this, we are partially Americans. I mean, decisions of US administration directly impact us.

They are in a dominant position.

But attacking them, weakening them means making more space for Chinese tech companies.

The rest of the world (ROW) is not acting in this game. It is a spectator.

The ROW drops some defensive laws such as GDPR or antitrust fines but this is not changing the History game happening right now.

What could ROW do?

In France, this is trendy to stop using Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Google, Uber, etc. services as a sign of domination rejection. I don’t see it as a game-changer. We lack serious alternatives. Only the most motivated people will be ok to use a lower quality service because they think using big tech companies is bad.

We need to make amazing champions emerge.

I don’t have a recipe for that. It looks complicated. Building an Apple or a Google in Europe would take decades.

Some suggest a serious European Nasdaq is a good first step, to not have most of the best tech companies in Europe do their IPO in the US. I like the idea. I don't know feasibility and credibility.

And what about having Europe massively investing in these big US companies? After all, they are publically traded.

Having a big amount of shares of these companies is maybe the best way to influence what’s going on in them.

Maybe this idea is irrelevant but I like it.
